Jane Villanueva is a driven young woman studying to become a teacher, nursing a dream to be a writer, and supporting herself with a job at a hot new Miami hotel. All the years of watching telenovelas with the two women who raised her - her sexy, young-at-heart mother, Xiomara and her still-devout grandmother, Alba - have given Jane a slightly unrealistic view of romance, but her wonderful fiancé, Michael, is supportive and even understands her decision to "save herself" until marriage. All of Jane's meticulous life plans are turned upside down, however, when she sees her doctor for a routine check-up and is accidentally artificially inseminated with a specimen meant for someone else. Now, Jane is faced with the most important decisions of her life - a life that has suddenly become as dramatic, complicated and unpredictable as the telenovelas she has always loved.

Jane struggles to keep her unexpected pregnancy from taking over her life, but with her mom Xiomara pressuring her to sue the doctor who accidently inseminated her, and her constant run-ins with the baby's biological father, Rafael, life is anything but normal. To top it off, Michael's jealousy about Jane and Rafael's past leads him to make an unexpected alliance with Petra. Meanwhile, Jane's own father, Rogelio, is insisting on meeting his daughter, but Xiomara wants to keep the secret from Jane a little while longer.

Jane considers making a life-changing decision about her and Michael's relationship. Alba is disappointed in Xo's handling of Rogelio, so Alba takes it into her own hands to stop Rogelio from trying to see Jane. Meanwhile, Jane continues to question whether Petra will be a fit mother, and her pursuit of the truth leads to an unexpected change in their relationship. In addition to being overwhelmed with all the wedding planning, Jane begins to feel guilty about her emerging feelings towards Rafael and decides to tell Michael during their pre-wedding counseling. Elsewhere, Rafael and Petra are faced with someone from their past and neither are happy about it. Meanwhile, Rogelio learns about Jane's impending nuptials and pushes Xo to let him be part of his daughter's wedding.

Furious at her mother Xo, Jane decides she needs some space and moves in with her fiancée, Michael. However, living together isn't what she thought it would be and Jane has to rethink her plans. Jane makes an effort to get to know Rogelio, but when his nerves get the better of him, things don't go quite as planned. Meanwhile, Rafael and Petra continue to struggle with the state of their marriage, but Petra has another unusual plan up her sleeve. .

Jane and Rogelio begin to grow closer until she meets his mean twin teenage stepdaughters, who are determined to make her life miserable. Rogelio insists Xo uses his band for her big performance at the Mirabella Hotel, but the band is not what she was expecting. Elsewhere, Rafael finds himself arrested after Petra files a complaint against him. Meanwhile, Jane is conflicted about the direction of her relationship with Michael and what will be the best choice for her.

Jane decides the best thing for her is to stay away from Rafael, but when her friends insist on taking her to the hot new club that he owns, she finds it hard to avoid him. Elsewhere, Xo and Rogelio each have dinner plans, so Rogelio suggests they have a double date, but the evening doesn't work out as planned. Meanwhile, Petra is once again scheming to make Rafael's life more difficult.

Jane and Rafael both reveal shocking secrets to each other. Xo is excited when a music producer, Elliot, contacts her to record a demo, but little does she know that Rogelio had a hand in making it happen. Meanwhile, Michael is close to a big break in his case, and Petra finds new ways to make Rafael's life difficult.

Jane and Rafael are both concerned about Petra's true intentions with the baby, especially after they discover one of her shocking secrets. Rogelio is nominated again for a Best Actor award and invites Jane, Alba and Xo to attend the show with him. Xo is about to give up on her dreams, but when she meets her ultimate idol, Paulina Rubio, she has a change of heart. Meanwhile, Michael unveils a huge clue in his ongoing investigation.

As a hurricane rips through Miami, Jane is forced to stay at the Marbella, but the storm soon becomes the least of her concerns. When Rogelio hears about Alba's condition, he rushes to Xo's side at the hospital to comfort her. Rafael is reinstated as boss, but he is soon faced with a difficult decision regarding layoffs at the hotel. Meanwhile, Michael helps Alba, but does his best to keep it a secret.

When the nuns surprise Jane by offering her a permanent teaching position, she's excited, but things become complicated when Rogelio offers Jane a writing internship at his telenovela. Alba encourages Xo to keep the promise she made to God about Rogelio. Meanwhile, Michael is convinced of Rafael's involvement with the mysterious Sin Rostro and disobeys his boss' direct order to leave Rafael alone.

Jane gets a big break in her career, but it all seems too good to be true, especially when it involves Rogelio. Rafael is stressed about Sin Rostro's connection to the hotel and begins to fear for his family's safety. Meanwhile, Petra's past is quickly catching up with her and she is disheartened when she learns the truth about someone very close to her.

Jane and Rafael are excited to find out the sex of the baby, but a medical issue means Jane might miss her graduation. Xo notices that something is going on with her mother, Alba, but Alba is too embarrassed to talk about it. Meanwhile, Michael thinks he has finally figured out who Sin Rostro is, but he must try to capture him before he slips away.

Michael is convinced that Rafael is helping to hide his father and puts the thought into Jane's head as well, making her grow suspicious of Rafael's recent actions. Elsewhere, Jane forces Xo and Rogelio to reveal how they really feel about each other, but neither is prepared for what the other has to say. Petra finds a new way to torture Rafael that even he could not have imagined. Meanwhile, Jane's friends want to throw her a baby shower, but it brings up some serious questions about her and Rafael's future.

When Jane and Rafael receive news about their baby's health, they revisit moving in together which prompts a surprise from Rafael. Alba gives Jane and Xo relationship advice that they both take to heart, but which leads them to unexpected friction with Rafael and Rogelio Meanwhile, Petra finds herself with an unexpected ally. Michael tells Jane that her favorite literary idol is staying at the Marbella and Jane is determined to get her own book into her hands.

Jane is feeling distant from Rafael so she focuses on her writing instead, but is stuck with a case of writers block. When Jane runs into Michael he mentions a romance writing workshop, and she thinks she has found the solution. Petra has a solution to finding a musical performer for the Mirabella's Calle Ocho celebration, but it forces Rafael to ask Rogelio for help. Rogelio is struggling with his new character as a detective, so he gets the brilliant idea to shadow Michael for real cop experience. Meanwhile, Xo has made a decision about her life with Rogelio which causes a rift between her and Alba.

When a crisis with the hotel overwhelms Rafael, Jane becomes concerned that he might not be as hands-on in fatherhood as she expected. Alba is having a difficult time with Xo's living situation which causes a strain between them. Michael helps Rogelio with his relationship with Xo, and in return Rogelio helps Michael come to a realization about Jane. Meanwhile, Petra discovers a big secret that leaves her unsettled.

Jane unintentionally ruins Rafael's chances of getting the hotel's liquor license back, but her attempt to help fix it means missing the Villanueva's Easter festivities. Rafael gets information about his birth mother from the private detective he has hired, but doesn't like what he hears. Rogelio's mother, Sofia, comes for a visit but she and Xo do not have the best history. Alba takes a big step in the romance arena, but is shocked when she learns what Edward does for a living. Meanwhile, Petra becomes more convinced about the secret she thinks she has stumbled upon and enlists Michael's help to get confirmation.

Jane is desperate to fix things with Rafael and suggests working on a way to help them move past their problems. Xo has been keeping a secret from Rogelio, but when she finally comes clean to him, Rogelio's reaction surprises her. Alba has a flashback of who pushed her down the stairs. Still dealing with the Sin Rostro aftermath, Michael makes an upsetting discovery about who was involved all along. Meanwhile, Petra finds herself in a dire situation leaving her to save herself.

Jane is determined to do what's best for the baby, especially after she and Rafael learn that the baby is breech. Xo continues to try to apologize to Rogelio, but faces an uphill battle. Rogelio is offered a big career opportunity that could bring him back to his glory days. Meanwhile, Alba shares what happened the night of her accident and Jane turns to Michael for help in catching Petra in a lie.

Jane is nervous to attend her five year high school reunion because she feels her life is not what she expected it to be. Rafael confides in Petra about Jane's custody request, making Petra think she can fix the problem and become the hero. Xo is confused about Rogelio's reaction during their show rehearsal until she learns the real reason behind it. Meanwhile, Jane agrees to attend Michael's commendation ceremony, but she has a few ground rules.

After having false labor, Jane insists that Xo and Rogelio go to Las Vegas to perform their show, but once they are gone the labor turns very real. Xo does everything she can to get back to help Jane, but ends up making Rogelio feel like he's not part of the family. The truth about Michael and Rafael's feelings for each other, and Jane, are put aside to help make Jane's labor easier. With the good news on the birth of Jane's baby, Alba is excited to tell her special friend. Meanwhile, Petra learns some very important information that concerns Rafael, leaving her to decide if she should tell him.

After Jane discovers Mateo's abduction, chaos ensues, especially when they all learn Sin Rostro is involved and demanding a ransom. Trying to help, Rogelio tweets about Mateo's kidnapping making the Villanueva family targets of the paparazzi. Despite everything that has happened, Jane must also focus on motherhood and turns to Xo and Alba for help, leaving Rafael feeling left out. Meanwhile, Petra is conflicted with what to do with Rafael's remaining sperm sample.

Jane is finally in a rhythm with Mateo, but finds herself out of step with Rafael and Michael and the potential love triangle that is brewing between them. In order to not be sued for missing their Vegas arrangement, Xo and Rogelio must perform on a cruise ship. Petra and Rafael are suspicious of Lachlan and his recent business proposal, but are soon faced with an even more shocking revelation. Meanwhile, Alba makes a very big decision that will impact her life.

Jane and Rafael try to plan Mateo's baptism. Meanwhile, Petra's news still has Rafael bewildered; Jane must make a tough decision about attending a graduate program; Xo helps Rogelio face his past; and Rogelio gives Michael advice about Jane.

As Jane tries to juggle motherhood and school, she forgets to plan Lina's surprise 25th birthday party leading to friction between the best friends. Jane thinks she is finally ready to make a decision about her love life. Alba has taken the proper steps to become a citizen, but Xo's past might make it more difficult than anyone was expecting. Rogelio learns that his nemesis, Britney Spears, is at the Marbella Hotel and he is determined to confront her about their past. Michael is so caught up in his ongoing feud with Rafael that he ends up in big trouble at work. Meanwhile, Petra gets an offer from her ex Milos she just can't refuse.

Jane and Rafael begin estate planning for Mateo, but when Jane realizes that Mateo will inherit millions, she worries he will become spoiled. Jane is also finally starting graduate school, but her professor (guest star Adam Rodriguez) is not sympathetic to her situation. Rogelio's famous show is ending, so he decides to create his own show, with Xo's encouragement. Petra is shocked to learn what she is having and turns to Jane for advice and help in getting her mother out of prison. Meanwhile, after Michael's issues at work, he has decided to go rogue and is even more determined to catch Sin Rostro.

Jane and Rafael interview potential babysitters to help take some of the pressure off everyone, but Jane has specific and lengthy requirements. Jane attends her graduate school's Christmas party in hopes of finding the perfect writing advisor, but things don't go quite as planned. Rogelio is faced with a tough decision about the direction of his life. Petra wants a friendship with Jane, but her mother's antics once again thwart those efforts. Meanwhile, Michael's suspicions have turned out to be true and he thinks he has discovered a lead on a possible rival to Sin Rostro.

Jane and Rafael are still at odds with each other as they are about to celebrate Mateo's first Christmas. Jane discovers that the scholarship she thought she had been awarded isn't quite that and now needs to find a way to pay for grad school. Rogelio has employed an intern and is having trouble trusting him. Petra is struggling with the latest dilemma her mother has gotten them into. Meanwhile, Michael is trying to find Luisa's mother who he now suspects is not dead and may be involved with Sin Rostro.

Jane's latest parenting obstacle is sleep training Mateo, a struggle that has the Villanueva woman divided on what is the best method. At the same time, she is beginning her new job as a TA and is faced with a class full of basketball players looking for an easy A. Petra confesses all to Rafael and is determined to put her mother away for good. Rogelio's mother Liliana comes for a visit and reveals a 40 year old family secret. Meanwhile, Michael discovers the truth about Luisa's mother and new information about Rafael's mother.

In the middle of the night, Jane gets a burst of creative energy and starts her thesis. Unfortunately, Mateo spills orange juice all over her computer causing it to crash and Jane loses all her hard work. When Jane brings her computer to be fixed, she meets Dax and with the urging of her friend Lina, Jane considers dating again. Rogelio decides to have his mother Liliana become his manager, but soon realizes that was not the best decision. When Rafael comes to after being attacked by his mother now known to be the crime lord Mutter, he goes to Michael and tells him what Mutter is looking for.

Jane's crush on Professor Chavez is popping up in her dreams and she needs to evaluate her feelings towards him. Xo and Jane find Liliana's engagement ring and think that Rogelio is going to propose. Rogelio IS planning to propose, but with a different ring, one that gets swallowed accidentally by Mateo! Michael comes to a realization about Rose and Mutter. J Cinquemani.

Jane is considering whether or not to take her relationship with Jonathan to the next level and turns to Xo for advice. Xo and Rogelio have their own relationship issues to work out. Meanwhile, as a favor to Rafael, Jane agrees to help Petra by throwing her a baby shower. Luisa is in a terrible car accident, but all is not as it seems. Michael comes to a realization he must share with Jane.

Jane and Michael are back together - almost! Jane attempts to get Rafael and Michael to reconcile, but it doesn't go well. While Rafael is sulking over losing Jane, he is ignoring Petra and her pregnancy needs. Xo and Rogelio have broken up over the baby issue, but they are still acting like a couple, something Jane sees as a problem. Rogelio hires a new assistant, Paolo, who appears too good to be true.

Jane and Michael are back together and Jane wishes she had never left Michael in the first place. Rafael appears to have regressed to his playboy ways and Petra is concerned about him. But Petra is not aware that Rafael is helping Michael find Mutter's other son, Derek. Rogelio's new assistant, Paola, is actually his stalker Lola. Finally, Petra gives birth to the twins.

Rafael and Petra are new parents but Petra is already back to work and appears to be not interested in motherhood. Xo has invited Alba's old flame Pablo to visit. This does not sit well with Alba as she believes Pablo is cursed and will bring bad luck. Jane is growing concerned that she can't get in touch with her father, Rogelio, who is being held captive by Lola.

Jane and Michael's wedding plans are side tracked when the Villanueva house is ruined by a flood. Jane is looking to have a small wedding, but Rogelio wants nothing more than to throw Jane a big blow out wedding so he can invite all his celebrity friends including guest star Charo. Jane and Michael are also looking for the perfect home to move into and when they find a place 45 minutes away, Rafael has an issue being that far from Mateo. Petra is still having trouble adjusting to motherhood.

Jane has a specific idea of how she wants to celebrate her bachelorette party, but when Xo and Lina get involved, nothing goes as planned. Michael wants to enjoy a night out with his friends, but things get awkward when his future father-in-law, Rogelio, tries to plan the perfect bachelor party. Rafael is still trying to figure out what his half-brother Derek motives are and what he knows about their mother. Meanwhile, Petra gets a surprise of a lifetime.

With Jane and Xo still dealing with the fallout from Jane's bachelorette party, Jane is now left with finding someone to watch Mateo. When Michael volunteers to help everything is perfect until Mateo does something for the first time in front of Rafael, upsetting him. Rogelio gets in trouble with the network executives when he uses the crew for his own use, so he turns to his favorite writer Dina to help fix the problem. Meanwhile, someone is causing problems for Petra at the Marbella and in her personal life.

Jane takes on additional shifts at the Marbella to make some extra money, but it starts cutting into her time with Mateo. Jane and Rafael agree that they need a formal custody agreement and decide to use a mediator to help make it more amicable. Xo takes an acting role on Rogelio's telenovela and they are both surprised with her performance. Michael gets called into his boss' office after a newspaper runs a story on him and Sin Rostro. Meanwhile, Petra confronts Rafael when she learns that the twins' trust fund is different from Jane's arrangement.

The Villanueva women have a tradition for Mother's Day and Jane is excited to get to participate in her first one as a mom. However, their plans are thwarted when Petra invites everyone to a brunch instead. Jane's TA position is put into jeopardy when a mysterious ad appears in the college newspaper. Rogelio is hurt when Dina doesn't invite him to her birthday party, so he asks Jane to help in an unusual way. Rafael finds himself in big trouble thanks to his half-brother. Meanwhile, Xo finds herself in a compromising position.

Jane has made big plans to celebrate Mateo's first birthday, but things start to fall apart when she learns there might be an issue with her wedding venue. Rogelio faces a challenge on set that could jeopardize Jane's big day. Jane is excited when Alba gives her a lead on a book publisher, but soon begins having doubts about her writing. Jane and Petra try to help Rafael figure out his troubles, but they have differing opinions on how to handle the situation. Meanwhile, Michael is convinced that Derek is really in cahoots with Mutter and has a plan to prove it.

After moving up the wedding day, Jane and Michael find all their carefully made plans thrown into chaos. To make matters worse, Jane is unhappy with her current graduate thesis, but changing it might put a wrinkle in her big day. Rafael still has feelings for Jane, but is torn about whether he should speak now or forever hold his peace. Petra has her own family drama when Anezka has a medical emergency and ends up in the hospital. Jane discovers that Michael was shot and finds herself having to make difficult choices. With Rafael focused on keeping Mateo safe, Anezka, who is pretending to be Petra, "helps" the cops with their investigation. However, it isn't long before everyone starts to notice that "Petra" is acting odd. Meanwhile, Rogelio is trying to keep everything out of the press for Jane, but in order to do so finds himself in an awkward position and asks for Xo's help.

When Rafael finally admits that he is over Jane, their co-parenting style is tested when they argue over what the best preschool is for Mateo. Xo is paranoid about Alba finding out her secret and what it will do to their relationship. Rogelio is ready to cross over to American TV, especially after he learns his nemesis is making the transition. Meanwhile, "Anezka" (Yael Grobglas) is trying to find new dirt on Rafael when she begins an unexpected romance.

Jane continues to work on her thesis and she decides to add Alba's estranged sister to the narrative, much to Alba's dismay. In order for Rogelio to have a chance at being an American crossover star he decides to bring the Passions of Santos to The CW in hopes they will pick it up. Xo thinks about abandoning her dream of being a singer for something more realistic. Meanwhile, Luisa is forced to make a choice between her family or Rose.

Jane and Michael's housewarming party in their new home hits a snag when they discover they are being evicted for not paying their rent. Rogelio is still trying to break into American television, but needs some unusual help from Rafael. Xo makes a new career choice, but Alba and Jane aren't convinced this is the one for her. Meanwhile, "Petra" (Yael Grobglas) shocks Rafael with what she wants to do with her shares of the hotel.

Jane convinces Alba to let her read the letters from her estranged sister, but under the condition Jane doesn't reach out to her family. Rafael is starting to suspect that something is different with Petra. Meanwhile, Michael and Rafael, with the help of Jane and Rogelio, try to create a civil friendship, but it doesn't go as smoothly as everyone hoped.

When Jane's cousin unexpectedly shows up at her door, Jane questions her own less than spontaneous life. Xo finds the perfect location for her dance studio, but it happens to be near her ex-boyfriend, Bruce. Rogelio realizes his feelings for Xo, but struggles with telling her. Petra is served with a lawsuit and she decides to ask Rafael for help. Meanwhile, Michael is ready to get to work just as they get a break in the Mutter case.

When Alba makes Jane feel guilty for not attending church, Jane decides she wants to bring Mateo against Rafael's wishes. Rafael unlocks a long lost memory of him and his mother, which could be a clue in the Mutter case. Rogelio hires a matchmaker to help him get over Xo Meanwhile, Jane's cousin is starting to wear out her welcome.

Jane finds it difficult to stop meddling in other people's relationships, especially Xo's and Rafael's Rogelio makes an unorthodox agreement with his matchmaker. Petra goes to great lengths to find out if Rafael is working against her. Michael, with Jane's help, makes an important life decision with Jane's help. Meanwhile, Rafael gets some upsetting news that leaves him reeling.

Jane and Michael are both feeling the pressure - Jane with turning in the perfect novel and Michael with passing his upcoming test. Jane and Rafael become concerned over Mateo's development when they learn that other children his age are more advanced. Rogelio invites everyone to the last day of filming for his telenovela, but he is not pleased with the ending. After watching Xo and Rogelio's interaction, Darci begins to question her and Rogelio's potential relationship. Meanwhile, Rafael is upset when he learns what Petra is up to, but she explains that she is protecting him once again.

When Jane realizes that she and Michael are both stressed out, they decide to recreate their first date to help them relax. Rogelio makes a big scene on the red carpet of his film premiere and his rant goes viral, which leave him to make a choice about the direction of his career. Rafael wants to set a good example for his children leaving him to make a big decision with the ultimate sacrifice. Meanwhile, Bruce's daughter finds herself in trouble leaving Xo and Bruce's to discuss the future of their relationship.

Working in publishing is not what Jane thought it would be, until she learns about a showcase for up and coming writers. With Petra helming the Marbella, she decides to rebrand the hotel, but quickly butts heads with the rival hotel next door. Rogelio and Darci have made a new arrangement which has put a strain on his relationship with Xo. Meanwhile, Jane and Rafael try to figure out the best solution to Mateo's behavioral issues and they both seem to have different approaches.

When Jane is offered a book deal, she thinks her prayers have been answered and debates quitting her awful publishing job. After suffering from panic attacks, Jane is ready to get to the root of the problem. Rogelio and Xo are working on fixing their friendship until Xo finds out that Rogelio has been lying to everyone all this time. Petra is running damage control on the Marbella's reputation after a grisly discovery is found on the property. Meanwhile, Rafael is ready to be involved again in the Mirabella and his first order of business is finding the perfect person to manage the hotel lounge.

When Jane messes up at Mateo's school, Petra convinces Jane to help with the preschool fundraiser to get in the good graces of the preschool's director. Jane is excited for her first meeting with her editor, but he's definitely not what she expected. Rafael's girlfriend Abbey suggests moving in together, but Rafael seems a little hesitant and turns to Petra and Jane for advice. Petra is hiding a new relationship, but that's not the only secret she's keeping. Rogelio is being sued after quitting his reality show and hires a lawyer to help fix things, but when the lawyer makes things worse he turns to Bruce for help. Meanwhile, Bruce asks Jane and Alba for help in surprising Xo.

Jane feels guilty that she isn't around for Mateo as much as she would like, so she decides to run for Room Mom against none other than perfect mom, Petra. With the help of Jane and Xo, Alba tries to impress her crush, but it doesn't go as smoothly as planned. Rafael tries to be there for both Jane and Petra. Meanwhile, Rogelio tries to slyly get information from Mateo about Xo and Bruce's relationship.

Jane is finally ready to get back in the dating game so she enlists the help of Rafael and Petra, but it seems they have their own issues to work on. Alba takes Xo and Jane's advice about being an independent woman when it comes to Jorge. Petra finds out that Chuck has been talking to the police, which could put her in hot water. Meanwhile, Rogelio is trying to settle his lawsuit in a hurry so he can start his new telenovela, but it isn't going as smoothly as he hoped.

Jane is finally a published author but she's reluctant to talk about her past to help sell her book. Rogelio is intimidated by his new younger male co-star and begins to wonder if the newbie is trying to sabotage him. Luisa and her girlfriend Eileen are back in town to visit Rafael, but Rafael isn't taking any chances when it comes to safety. Meanwhile, Petra must convince Anezka to come back to Miami to answer some questions the police have for her.

Jane is ready for some casual dating and is pleasantly surprised when her date actually helps her fix things with Lina. Petra follows a lead with the help of Chuck that could help her sister's case. Rafael takes Jane's advice and tries to come clean with Petra. Rogelio is angry with Xo when she blows him off, but is shocked when he learns the reason why. Meanwhile, Alba is appalled by a comment a customer makes in the gift shop and decides to take a political stance.

Jane has to learn how to handle her new love life, especially when the guy she is dating introduces her to his grandmother. Petra learns some interesting information about Chuck. Xo and Rogelio are eager to share their news with Jane, but want to try to take her feelings into consideration. Meanwhile, when Mateo starts asking questions, Jane and Rafael are forced to sit down with him and explain how their family came to be.

Jane and Fabian are not on the same page when it comes to their relationship, which makes it hard for Jane to ask him for a favor. Petra and Rafael both turn to Jane for advice, but Jane is determined not to get involved. Meanwhile, Jane volunteers to help Xo and Rogelio, but might have bitten off more than she can chew.

Jane struggles to find the right words for Rogelio and Xo's ceremony, when she learns about a mysterious letter that Michael wrote before their wedding. Rogelio and Xo are excited for their big day, but Rogelio gets some shocking news that could put things on hold. Once again Rafael is upset with Luisa and asks her to leave, but Luisa has a plan of her own. Meanwhile, Petra is skeptical about Jane's feelings for Rafael which leads her to make a rash decision.

When Jane is reunited with her first love, Adam, she is shocked but happy to see him, however Xo and Alba are less thrilled that he is back. After Rafael loses ownership of the hotel to his sister, he finds himself at Jane's house, broke and homeless. Jane and Rafael learn that Petra has been found and they rush to her aide, but Anezka is nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Xo and Rogelio wedded bliss is interrupted when they confront the realization that Darci is having Rogelio's baby and she wants full custody.

Jane's burgeoning relationship with Adam helps bring out her fun side and reminds her that she isn't just a mom. However, when Adam gets a job opportunity, he asks for Jane's opinion on if he should stay or go. Rogelio is facing issues with his co-star at work and things are about to get even worse for him. Xo is helping to take care of Darci to prove that Rogelio is committed to being a father to the baby. Meanwhile, Petra and Rafael are working together to try and buy back the hotel, but are running into trouble, causing tension between them.

Jane and Adam's relationship seems to be moving at hyper-speed, and Jane thinks that it might be time for him to meet Mateo, but Rafael is not happy with this idea. As the arrival of baby De LaVega Factor approaches, Rogelio's jealously of Darci's new boyfriend increases as well. Trying to be supportive, Xo encourages Rogelio to step up and be the father he was meant to be. Meanwhile, Rafael is determined to get his hotel and life back and will do whatever he has to do to make it happen.

When Jane learns that Rafael introduced Mateo to his new girlfriend, Katherine, without her consent she gets angry since she thinks Katherine has a negative influence on both Rafael and Mateo. Jane turns to Petra for help with the situation with Rafael, but Petra makes Jane an offer she can't refuse. Now that the baby is born, Rogelio and Darci struggle to choose a name for the baby they both agree on. Meanwhile, Xo is focused on growing the dance studio and decides to go into business with an unlikely foe.

When Adam reveals his dating past to Jane, the information puts a strain on their relationship. Lina seeks Jane's advice about whether she should get married and begs Jane to give her honest opinion about her fiancé. Petra hears some important information that could help Rafael get the hotel back, but Rafael is more concerned about his sister's well-being. Meanwhile, Xo asks Rogelio to consider having a medical procedure done, but Rogelio is very hesitant.

Jane's book is finally being released but her plans to have a party at the local bookshop where she was inspired to be a writer hit a snag. Always wanting to help Jane, Rogelio devises a plan to save the day, but one of his archrivals threatens to ruin the day. Rafael finds a job, but it is not exactly what he was hoping for. Meanwhile, Petra has come up with an interesting strategy to get the Marbella back, but Rafael wants nothing to do with it.

Jane is excited for her first book tour and brings Xo along for fun, but Alba decides last minute that she is going as well. Things take an unexpected turn at their first stop which makes all three ponder what they should do. Rafael and Rogelio's attempts to take care of Mateo while Jane is away hits a bump, but ultimately might have made things better between them. Meanwhile, Petra thinks she has finally gotten a handle on the hotel, until a new problem arises.

After Jane and Rafael decide to send Mateo to a new school, they become guilt-ridden when they are forced to lie to get him in. After Xo convinces Rogelio to attend therapy they both are surprised by their emotions. Meanwhile, Petra finds herself in big trouble with no one to turn to for help, not even Rafael.

When Jane and Rafael realize that the uncertain state of their relationship is stressing out Mateo, they decide that they need to make a decision. Petra is on the outs with Jane and Rafael after the Luisa fiasco so she tries to figure out a way to get back into their good graces. Meanwhile, Rogelio and Xo are both contemplating their career choices.

Jane and Rafael try to be friends which works great until Jane goes on a date. Petra and Jane's new partnership is off to a rocky start, but they both know they have to find a way to work together somehow. Rogelio is convinced he has Male Post-Partum Depression, which puts him at odds with with celebrity Post-Partum Advocate River Fields. Meanwhile, Alba finally tells Jane why she turned down the marriage proposal, leaving Jane to help Alba in the romance department.

Jane is ready to move on from the Marbella and pursue writing full time, but an unexpected development forces her to consider returning to her teaching roots. When Jane applies for a job as an adjunct professor, she finds herself seeing her former professor, Jonathan Chavez, in a different light. Rafael thinks he has found a way to get back in the real estate game and looks to Jane for support. Meanwhile, Rogelio courts Eva Longoria to star in the American remake of the Passions of Santos.

Jane's fixation on a negative review has left her with writer's block, so Rogelio suggests she take a class to help. With the encouragement of Jane, Rafael is ready to dig into his past. Rogelio is trying to make things less about him and more about Xo, but he grows suspicious when he learns she is keeping a secret from him. Meanwhile, Petra tests the loyalty of her lawyer.

When Jane, Rogelio and Alba learn what is going on with Xo, they all try to comfort her, but Xo insists they let her live her life. Rogelio finally gets River Fields to agree to meet with him, but he learns that River has another plan in mind. Rafael is on a mission to find his sister who may have the information he has been looking for. Meanwhile, Jane is upset with Petra after her girls spill a secret to.

Xo struggles to make an important decision and looks to Jane for guidance leaving Rogelio feeling like an outsider. Alba is frustrated with Rogelio when it seems he is once again making his career a priority over Xo. Meanwhile, Petra turns to Rafael for advice on her love life.

After Jane, Rafael, Petra and JR all go out together, Jane is bothered to learn that JR doesn't like her. Jane and Rafael brush off a big relationship moment, but they both try to make up for it in different ways. Rogelio is nervous to tell Darci that he is no longer able to be a "Danny" so he uses Xo as a scapegoat landing him in hot water with both Xo and Darci. Meanwhile, Jane helps Alba secretly prepare for the biggest test in her life.

Jane and Rafael find themselves in a not ideal living situation in order to save money. When Rafael sees Alba try to punish Mateo, an unexpected rift is formed. Xo tries to stay positive during treatment and even makes a new friend, but things get a little too real for her and Rogelio. River and Rogelio once again are at odds over their ideas for the show, but an unlikely person helps River see the show in a different light. Meanwhile, Petra feels unsupported by JR when she questions what really happened the night Anezka died.

Xo is determined to be at grandparents' day for Mateo but still has one more chemo treatment. Meanwhile, Alba is getting mixed messages from Jorge about their relationship.

With everything that has been going on, Jane reluctantly agrees to let Rogelio throw her a big 30th birthday party. Jane's mentor gives her some important advice that may help her start writing again. Meanwhile, Petra thinks she and JR are finally in a good place, until she realizes that JR might see things differently.

Jane struggles with giving Rafael his space after she discovers that he is hiding a secret. Jane and Michael uncover clues about what happened the day he "died." Petra wants to fit into JR's world and enlists Jane's help. After a few attempts to get back into the groove, Xo and Rogelio work together to try and find a new normal. Meanwhile, Alba confesses her feelings about Agustin.

When Jane and Rogelio join forces to pitch a pilot, Jane is excited until she discovers a secret about her book being published. Alba and Jorge make an important decision about their future together. Rafael asks Jane to allow Luisa to meet Mateo, but she is unsure of her decision. Meanwhile, Petra and JR's relationship is once again tested.

When Rogelio tells Jane that the network wants her to write the script for their telenovela, at first she is excited, but begins to struggle balancing her time between that and her novel. Rafael is furious with Jane after she makes a medical appointment that he doesn't agree with behind his back. Meanwhile, Petra tries to be positive about their relationship when JR lands a job interview out of state.

With Jorge officially moved into Alba's house with his stuff, it quickly has changed the dynamic, making Jane to uncomfortable. Rafael and Jane work on their co-parenting of Mateo now that they have a potential way to help Mateo. Rogelio has a new set of unexpected problems arise on set with River. Meanwhile, Xo is nervous about her last PET scan and what the results could show.

After Rafael witnesses Mateo's behavior at school, he wants to take a different approach to his treatment. Rogelio is paranoid that River is plotting her revenge against him. Meanwhile, Jane convinces Petra to go on a single ladies' night out after she learns that Rafael is dating.

When Lina comes to town, Jane is excited to see her until she asks for a favor; Rafael begins to work with Petra again, but old tensions create new problems between them; Rogelio creates a plan to pressure the network o pick up his pilot.

After Jane is struck with inspiration for her book, she immediately begins to write, but her next challenge is to get an agent. Rogelio has been so focused on being the star, he begins to contemplate taking on a different role instead. Meanwhile, Jane thinks it's important to build a different relationship with the twins and turns to Petra for some guidance.

When Jane's editor pitches her a dark twist for her book, Jane begins to wonder if the same thing might have actually happened to her. Rogelio helps River bond with her daughter, but River once again makes things difficult for him. To avoid thinking about her career change, Xo instead focuses on trying to smooth things over between Jane and Alba. Meanwhile, Alba stands up to someone from her past, which helps Jane realize she should do the same for herself.

Jane is feeling great about all the book publishing prospects she has until an unexpected problem pops up. Petra and Rafael's working relationship has been going so well that Petra makes Rafael an unexpected offer. It seems like every time Rogelio takes one step closer to his dream, a new roadblock appears.
