Netflix has officially titled its upcoming Extraction spin-off series Mercenary: An Extraction Series, unveiling a first-look photo of its star, Omar Sy (Lupin) . The eight-episode action-thriller follows a new mercenary on a perilous hostage rescue mission in Libya, where he is trapped between warring factions and forced to confront his own deep emotional wounds.

The series is created and executive-produced by Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead), with Louise Hooper (The Sandman) and Tim Southam (One Piece) directing. The ensemble cast includes Boyd Holbrook, Natalie Dormer, and Waleed Zuaiter. Production has recently wrapped in Ireland and is now filming in Morocco, though a release date has not yet been announced.

This series is just one piece of Netflix's ambitious expansion of the Extraction franchise. The streamer is also developing Extraction 3, with Chris Hemsworth set to reprise his role as Tyler Rake. Furthermore, a South Korean spin-off film titled TYGO is in the works, featuring a star-studded cast of Don Lee and BLACKPINK’s Lisa in her feature film debut. This multi-pronged approach signals Netflix's commitment to building a global action universe around its most successful original film franchise.
